If I had to critique anything, which is difficult to do, I would say the child character Chloe is more precocious than I tend to prefer, but she is a refreshing delight (and sometimes convenient plot device). Shepherd makes it drive the second half of the plot, rather than tacking it on formulaically. I won’t repeat my entire review (if your interested, my Goodreads review is here), but I do have to say that I absolutely admire the way Shepherd incorporated a challenging subplot that tackles sexual assault, something that is so relevant today. I literally LOL’d several times while reading it. I put all my other books on hold so I could dive into this seasonal romance, Faking Under the Mistletoe by Ashley Shepherd over Christmas.
